Winter Haven Municipal Airport Safety Committee

April 2010 Safety Reminders

1.   Sun ‘n Fun NOTAM. (When available) http://www.sun-n-fun.org/

2.   Please minimize multiple and/or training traffic pattern operations at KGIF during peak fly-in traffic times.

3.   When wind is less than five (5) knots reported on the KGIF ASOS, the preferred runway is Runway 5. Note: If true conditions indicate otherwise (windsock, flags, lakes, etc.) use appropriate runway. If cross-wind landings are being practiced, please advise other traffic by including it on your regular CTAF reports.

4.   CTAF – review the Aeronautical Information Manual (Section 4-1-9) for appropriate use of CTAF. Minimize unnecessary conversations on the frequency.

5.   When there is a conflict of “runway in use”, request “advisories” from Unicom (123.05).

6.   Please review operations at non-towered airports at: http://asrs.arc.nasa.gov/docs/cb/cb_314.pdf and http://rgl.faa.gov/Regulatory_and_Guidance_Library/rgAdvisoryCircular.nsf/8ce3f88c034ae31a85256981007848e7/74c9017c9457e4ab862569d800780551/$FILE/AC90-66A.pdf

7.   Please refrain from airplane washing on the taxiways to minimize the possibility of incursions.

8.   Aircraft have the right-of-way over all vehicles and pedestrians on all airport surfaces.

9.   Airport speed limit will soon be posted. Keep all movements below 10 MPH.

10. Children should be accompanied by an adult on the airport at all times.

11. The dumpster in the t-hangar area is for hangar trash only. Speaking of trash – please help keep our airport clean and free of FOD (foreign object damage).
